Vow Renewal Rituals
Vow Renewal Rituals
As with all ceremonies rituals can add depth and meaning to a vow renewal ceremony. A ritual may be added at any point during the vow renewal ceremony. There are many beautiful rituals to choose from, some involving candles, sand or flowers. You may even wish to recreate or modify a ritual that was included in your wedding ceremony. Following are a couple of examples.
Love Cup Ritual
Originates from the Celtic tradition and celebrates the union of two people.
Traditionally, a loving cup is a drinking vessel that has two handles.
Two people hold both handles and take turns to sip the water or other beverage from the cup.
Alternatively, one person holds both handles and sips from the cup.
That person then passes it on to the other person.
In a renewal of vows ceremony, the couple drinks to the love that is past, the love that is present and the love that the future will bring to them
If a vessel with two handles is not available, two glasses may be substituted.
Boxed Wine Ritual
This ritual is a promise that the couple makes to one another ,not to walk away quickly from their marriage, if they run into hard times.
Time – about 3 to 5 minutes in length
Supplies:
Wooden box that can be nailed shut or locked
Nails and Hammer or a Lock
Two glasses
Bottle of wine (or your favourite drink)
Love letters to each other written by the couple before the ceremony
Placement – at the end of the vow renewal ceremony, after the Ring Ceremony but before the Declaration.
